The Value of Saving
Isn’t it a wonderful feeling when you pass by people and they admire the pretty things you wear? From your designer bag, latest season shoes and Neiman Marcus suit, you can simply see the admiration in their eyes. This reaction is definitely a confidence-booster. It can make at least part of your morning great and inspire you to shop more.
However, is this short-lived admiration of strangers really worth spending all your money over? Yes, it is indeed nice to have all the wonderful items at the mall. But does it able you to save money for emergency needs and retirement? Or does it only pile you with credit card debt and money shortages all the time? Come to think of it. What is more important to you? To have money for the rainy days or all the in-season clothes that are only a passing fad?
When you are addicted to shopping, you have the tendency to disregard the importance of saving. Your mind is simply clouded with the desire to own such wonderful items. But when the time comes when you need money, that’s when the reality of your deed will hit you. If your car breaks, you’ll have no cash to pay for the repair. And if your credit limit is used up, your credit card is as good as dead unless you start paying your balance off.
This is an instance when saving money rises as your savior. Those who have savings can instantly withdraw cash from their account. But you, you may have to borrow money from sources you haven’t even tested yet. Worst, you may have to accept loans with great interest rates since you have no choice. Having no choice in times of great need is a terrible feeling. You can just look at the designer items you have bought and feign regret at them.
However, it isn’t too late. You can always bounce back from your wrong financial strategy. Kick the wrong shopping habit and start fixing your financial life. Make sure to pay yourself first whenever you receive your paycheck. Shop only for the necessities. Get confidence and inspiration from more valuable things such as your intelligence and diligence and not from material things.
Remember, in times of great need, your savings will be your hero, not the material items you have an abundance of.
