How to Throw a Great Party at Minimal Cost
During these hard times, it is never easy anymore to throw a party for friends. Whatever you do, you will need money to organize it. But if you really must throw a party for friends, here some ideas which you can do to make your party fun without the taxing budget.
Divide and Conquer
Ask friends if they are willing to co-host the party. This way you get to divide the cost between the two of you. If you borrow money for expenses, at least it wouldn’t be as high now. But don’t limit yourself with just one friend. Try if your other friends are willing to contribute, too. Some can bring the beer and wine, others can bring dessert, and so on. To make it even better, if your friends ask you what to bring, assign them a recipe. This way no one brings the same things on the table come party time.
Choose a Frugal Time
Dinner parties will cost you several dishes on the menu, wine to go with it, and coffee at the end of the night. But if you throw a brunch or tea party then you can save tremendous amounts of cash. At brunch for instance you will only need eggs and breads mostly. These are relatively cheaper than steak and other gourmet ingredients for dinner. Tea party is dainty so you will only have to serve cakes and other pastries.
Alternative Dishes
If what you normally cook for dinner parties are now expensive then look for alternatives. Instead of beef steak, why not cook an irresistible chicken recipe? For dessert, opt for generic but no less than delicious dishes. Pies for instance can be found in bakeshops or you can make them on your own. Instead of passing caviar and wine, try tuna for appetizer instead.
Buffet
People tend to eat less in a buffet because of all the chatting and catching up that they do. So gather your dishes and place them in one long table. Besides, it is far easier and cheaper to prepare foods in batches than in singles like that in an upscale restaurant. And while an upscale restaurant is a romantic setting, you simple don’t have that luxury in your home and with your limited budget.
Although times can be financially tough sometimes, you don’t have to sacrifice having quality time with friends. Throw a party for them if you must but always look for ways to lessen your costs.
